Transferring Large Files

As animators, we are accustomed to having to transfer extremely large files. Here’s a few sites that will make it a little easier for you:

1. Dropbox – Dropbox is a simple to use service that gives you 2 GB for free and you can easily earn more space by making recommendations, or linking it to mailbox or doing a few really small things. Great site, but sometimes it can be a little slow.

2. Wetransferhttp://www.wetransfer.com is super fast and super easy. You can send a file as large 2GB. There is no sign up or annoying emails. Its a simple user-friendly service. This is for temporary transferring though, so files are only good for a week.

3. Ubuntu Onehttps://one.ubuntu.com/

4. Box.com – free version gives you 5GB of space, but file size limit is 250 MB. https://www.box.com/pricing/

5. Apple iCloud – 5 GB of free space – https://www.icloud.com/

6. Amazon Cloud – 5GB of free space  – http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000796931&ref_=cd_lm_rd_fp

7. Google Drive – 15 GB of free space – upload any type of file including videos and you can share them.

8. Mediafire – 10 GB and upto 50 GB for FREE  (the catch, there are ads, but seriously, not a big deal) – https://www.mediafire.com/upgrade/

If you can think of more sites or services, let us know.

5 Second Animations

Animations don’t need to be long. GreyscaleGorilla.com, a really cool blog and community of artists, has a competition every month called the Five Second Project. The challenge: create a 5 second animation that somehow related to the theme of the month.

Here are some of the winners and honorable mentions from the last few months. Some of these are just awesome.

5 seconds is pretty quick so give it a shot: http://greyscalegorilla.com/blog/five-second-projects/

They take 2D, stop motion, 3d, practically anything that includes some animation.

Theme: Bah Humbug

Theme: Pots ‘n Pans

Theme: Sandcastle

Theme: Monster Bash

Theme: Harder Better Faster Stronger

Stop Motion Inspiration: Her Morning Elegance

I was introduced to this a year ago and since then it just keeps popping up in my life every couple of months. It’s really good though, so check it out.

And a quick behind the scenes:

Cinemagraphs

This is a little more related to photography, but still quite interesting. Cinemagraphs are animated GIFs where most of it is just a still image and only a part of it moves. It creates a really weird but neat effect.

Learn how to make one here.

Anyways here are a few really cool cinemagraphs that I’ve come across.
