Here is a collection of inspiring work by Henry Selick, including his pencil tests for Disney when he went to Cal Arts, a few of his MTV bumpers, and personal work prior to Nightmare Before Christmas.

A Spring Break Challenge

Character Artist at Blizzard Entertainment, Tyson Murphy, did a neat little exercise where he took a scene from a movie and painted over it and he ended up with a really awesome result. Give it a shot.

Art of the Title

Ever seen a really good title sequence? There is actually a lot more to it than just placing text on top of a video. If you haven’t checked this website out, make sure you do:  http://www.artofthetitle.com/

It has all sorts of amazing work, making of videos and interviews, and tips on approaching a title sequence.

Here are two that I found really interesting:

RYAN LARKIN – WALKING (1968)

by Ryan Larkin — 1968

An artist’s observation of the way people walk. Ryan Larkin employs a variety of techniques–line drawing, color wash, etc.–to catch and reproduce the motion of people afoot. The springing gait of youth, the mincing step of the high-heeled female, the doddering amble of the elderly–all are registered with humor and individuality, to the accompaniment of special sound.

Production : National Film Board of Canada (nfb.ca)

Surf the nfb.ca website, you can stream from a large archive of amazing films and animations, all produced by our lovely neighbors to the north.

TODOR AND PETRU – CRCR

This awesome pixelation/2D-Animation music video was made by the Animation Collective CRCR (check out their website http://www.crcr.fr/) the same collective that created the Lorn – Ghosst(s) video that I uploaded yesterday.

Interesting to note that Bhakti showed me this last year and it was only today I realized it’s from the same group! The internet is smaller than we might expect people!
